Sacred Connections Sacred Connections is a spiritual support group that meets every other Wednesday night in our community room. Part of GPC’s mission is to think, read, pray, and act together as Christians through our “inner” and “outer” journeys related to our spiritual lives at the church. Many of us find great spiritual rewards in deepening our connections with our various mission partners and taking actions of one kind or another toward helping those in need. That is great and important to our community. However, we may find that sometimes the equally important part of a spiritual journey, that of reflecting on our lives, our relationship with Christ, praying intensively for ourselves and others, and deepening the sacred connections we share with one another in our community, can be neglected. Sometimes we might feel that taking such time with no immediate tangible outcome in sight is time we just cannot spare. But once one starts to etch out such time… well, sometimes amazing things can happen. Think of the time Jesus so often took to pray, to get away from all those he could heal, teach, touch in some way or other, for time to reflect, renew himself and those close to him, and to connect with God through prayer. Even Jesus could not perform miracles 24-7. Neither can we! So for those seeking to recharge their “spiritual batteries,” so to speak, this group may be of interest. At GPC, a small group, known as “Sacred Connections,” exists to work toward creating this kind of special, “sacred” time and space. From September through mid-June, we meet bi-weekly for an hour of quiet meditation, sometimes with soft music, sometimes in silence. At times the meditation may offer a focus on a Bible verse or theme, or on a poem, some lines of prose by an inspired leader, or elsewhere. Then we have a time for sharing and prayer out of the quiet time shared together. In the summer months we are a bit more sporadic, but meet when a core group is in town. In addition to biweekly gatherings, this group is interested in promoting prayerful, sacred moments together, such as evening or all-night vigils for special causes and holy days, and occasional spiritual retreats for all and anyone interested. For more information about the group or the next meeting, please contact the church office, Linda Stevenson, Ann Guise, Ginger Fifer, Pastor Todd, or check out the church calendar. |
